SHOW ALL
This command shows all the configured settings and default settings in the RMAN environment.
# default denotes any default settings.
RMAN> show all;
RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name PROD are:

The show command queries the control file to retrieve RMAN setting.
You can view the configured settings in V$RMAN_CONFIGURATION
RMAN> configure retention policy to redundancy 2;
new RMAN configuration parameters:
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;
new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored
SQL> col name format a30
SQL> col value format a20
SQL> select * from v$rman_configuration;
CONF# NAME VALUE
---------- ------------------------------ --------------------
1 RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2
How will you restore the parameters to default settings.
By using CLEAR command.
eg.
RMAN> configure retention policy clear;
old RMAN configuration parameters:
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;
RMAN configuration parameters are successfully reset to default value
What is the use of snapshot controlfile?
When ever RMAN syncs the control file with recovery catalog a snapshot controlfile gets created. Also when a controlfile backup is taken a snapshot controlfile will get created.
